June 16, 2018

Saturday | 8:00 pm | Sarasota Opera House
Tickets from $35 | Seat Layout

Composed in New York in 1919, Prokofiev’s Overture on Hebrew Themes was written for a Russian Sextet whose members gave the composer a notebook of Jewish folksongs for inspiration. Praised for his “sparkling pianism and innate sense of partnership” (Le Salon de musiques), pianist Vijay Venkatesh, a 2017 Festival alumnus, will shine in Saint-Saens’ Piano Concerto No. 2.  Tchaikovsky’s  late Romantic masterpiece Serenade for Strings, has long been hailed as one of the composer’s greatest triumphs.
