COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update

As of March 23, 2020

Sarasota Orchestra is cancelling all performances Friday, March 13 through April 26, due to concerns over the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

For the health and safety of our community, Sarasota Orchestra will cancel concerts, events and meetings scheduled through April 26, 2020. While the decision itself is a clear one, our Orchestra family will miss the opportunity to share the joy of live music with you.

A list of cancellations and guidance for ticket credits and donations are at the bottom of this message. We have closed our Box Office to public walk-up, but will respond to email and phone inquiries as quickly as we can. We appreciate your patience as we work through a high volume of inquiries.

On Tuesday, March 24, we hope you will tune into Classical WSMR 89.1 at 7:00 p.m. to hear a recorded broadcast of a Sarasota Orchestra concert featuring Beethoven's triumphant Fifth Symphony.  Work is underway to bring you a wide range of music online by Sarasota Orchestra musicians, Artistic Advisor Jeffrey Kahane, our youth orchestra students and Sarasota Music Festival participants.  In this way, we hope to share a measure of joy and comfort.

We are profoundly grateful to our patrons who have donated their tickets to help keep our Orchestra together so that we can resume performances when this crisis abates.

If you can help, please consider donating your purchased tickets for canceled concerts. Subscription renewals for 2020-2021 and Annual Fund support are also critical to preserving Sarasota Orchestra.

Sarasota Orchestra remains steadfast in our mission to enrich lives through music's life-affirming power. As a patron of the arts, you know that creating and witnessing art, in all its forms, is a rejuvenating force for the soul. We believe that the arts will have a vital role to play during this crisis and the months following, as we share the inspiring power of artistic expression.

We will continue to review and adapt to guidance from health and government authorities. Please check back for current information.

As we all seek to take excellent care of one another, our musicians, staff and Board thank you for your support of Sarasota Orchestra. Please know I am personally grateful for your support and to be part of this community.

Literally gripping the arms of my seat, I was not the only one propelled on this rollercoaster of delightful music.

Every section and soloist within the orchestra played their role with strength and beauty; every tree proud and tall. Tali served as an excellent guide leading the forces with assured confidence. The overall sound was lush and, yes, intense just where it needed to be.

The Sarasota Orchestra was brimming with bubbling energy...

A lifetime of musical moments, cinematic in scope, gave every section of the orchestra a leading role at one time or another. Chief among them was the virtuosic solo of concertmaster Daniel Jordan.

It was a thrill ride resulting in an explosion of audience enthusiasm.

Andrew Lane, the Orchestra’s Principal Pops Conductor, knows how to program a winning event and this concert had something for everyone. It also brought in a whole new audience that seemed dazzled by the performances.

The Sarasota Orchestra played a program this past weekend filled with so much color, it was like visiting the Louvre.

The performance... was exceptional, bringing new and stunning sonorities from a larger than usual Sarasota Orchestra under the dynamic leadership of Anu Tali.
