Bachelor of Music – Peabody Conservatory of Music; Graduate Studies – Banff Centre School of Fine Arts

Biography:
Michael McClelland received his BM from the Peabody Conservatory of The Johns Hopkins University where he was a student of Karen Tuttle. In 1981, he was a music fellow at the Banff Centre School of the Arts. In 1988, he participated in the Marlboro Summer Festival and the New England Bach Festival. He has held appointments as an Asst. Professor of Music at the University of Illinois, and Artist Faculty Viola of the Harid Conservatory and Lynn University where he was also Music Division Chair. He has served as faculty at the Sewanee Summer Music Festival, Tidewater Summer Music Program and Sarasota Youth Orchestra Summer Music Camp. McClelland was a founding member of the Baltimore String Quartet from 1984-1988 and performed three tours of Europe as a part of that ensemble. McClelland was also the founding violist of the Chroma String Quartet which performed from 2006-2014. He has made chamber music and solo appearances at Carnegie Hall, The John F. Kennedy Center and numerous colleges.

Passions/Interests:
Outside of music, Michael enjoys aviation and cooking.

Michael's career highlights include the following engagements: 1979-1990, Baltimore Symphony; Baltimore String Quartet 1984-1988; Marlboro Summer Music Festival, 1988; Principal Viola, Baltimore Opera; 1990-1994 Asst. Professor of Music, University of Illinois; 1994-2000; Artist-Faculty, The HARID Conservatory; 1998-2003, Asst. Principal Viola, The Florida Philharmonic; Chroma Quartet 2006-2014.
