Instrument: As a percussionist, Tomasz perform on multiple instruments every day, but if he had to choose my favorite instrument it would be his 14" x 5" Pearl Philharmonic Solid Maple Snare Drum. It has an incredible versatility and character, from the softest whisper to the loudest crack.

Tomasz Kowalczyk, hailing from Krakow, Poland, was appointed as Section Percussionist of the Sarasota Orchestra in 2018. He gained praise as a soloist from a very young age, receiving his first award in Poland at the age of 12, only a few months after beginning his percussion studies. Since then he was an award winner in multiple competitions throughout Europe and the United States, including the European Music Prize for the Youth Competition, and the PAS International Solo Competition. Especially passionate about Solo Marimba repertoire, he moved to the United States in 2008, to study with the legendary marimbist Robert van Sice at Peabody Conservatory.

Outside of Sarasota Orchestra, Tomasz performed with the orchestras of Houston, Charlotte, Omaha, Fort Worth and San Antonio, he regularly performs with ensemblenewSRQ and joined the Cabrillo Festival Orchestra for its 2019 season.

As an educator, Tomasz is passionate about education. He has taught private lessons in Houston and enjoys coaching the Sarasota Youth Orchestra. Outside of music, Tomasz enjoys running, cooking, and exploring the local restaurant scene.

Career Highlights:
Some of Tomasz’s favorite musical moments include winning his position in the Sarasota Orchestra and performing Shostakovich's 10th Symphony under Valery Gergiev at Suntory Hall in Tokyo.

Every section and soloist within the orchestra played their role with strength and beauty; every tree proud and tall. Tali served as an excellent guide leading the forces with assured confidence. The overall sound was lush and, yes, intense just where it needed to be.
