Laura Stephenson Petty moved to Sarasota in 2004 from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she was Principal Clarinetist of the Iowa Symphony, then known as the Cedar Rapids Symphony. In addition to her duties as the second clarinetist of the Sarasota Orchestra, Laura performs as Principal Clarinet of the Charlottesville Opera in Virginia during the summer. She can also be seen performing throughout the year with ensemblenewSRQ, a contemporary music ensemble started by colleagues in the orchestra that is bringing a fresh new voice to the local music scene. In addition to performing, Laura is an active teacher and works with the Sarasota Youth Orchestras as a coach and as an ambassador to various local schools. She also maintains a small studio of private students.

Laura is an avid mountain biker, road cyclist, runner, and hiker. She loves anything she can do outdoors while moving.

Career Highlights:
Some of Laura's favorite musical moments include performances with Cincinnati Symphony, Cincinnati Opera, Alabama Symphony, Kansas City Symphony, Naples Philharmonic, Florida Orchestra, and The Colorado Music Festival.
