Due to temporary illness, the original soloist, Lukáš Vondráček (piano) will not be performing this weekend. We do expect he will perform for Chamber Soirée: Splendid Colors on January 18 and 21.

Roman Rabinovich will take his place as the piano soloist.

First symphonies and concerti frequently hold special meaning to composers. These two firsts by Brahms and Sibelius are intense adventures. Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 1 is a giant among piano concerti. Born out of personal emotional conflict, the work is both heroic and tragic. Roman Rabinovich, winner of the 12th Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition in 2008, will take on this formidable and beloved concerto. Sibelius's First Symphony is a patriotic tribute to his homeland of Finland. The work features an incredibly rich tone palette that is both expansive and intimate.
