Women of Note

Artist Showcase 1

June 4, 2020

Thursday | 4:30 pm | Holley Hall
Tickets from $31 | Seat Layout

The 2020 Festival shines a spotlight on great women in music, beginning with a program featuring works by two extraordinary composers. Parisian-born Lili Boulanger was the first female winner of the coveted Prix de Rome in music composition at the age of only 19. Her three ravishing miniatures for violin and piano (completed only weeks before her death at age 24), featuring Festival favorite Angelo Yu, opens this program. Swedish violinist and composer Amanda Maier was the first woman to graduate from the Stockholm Conservatory with the esteemed title “Director of Music”.  Her inspired and songful piano trio was recently rediscovered and recorded. Works by Mozart and Dvořák fill out the concert.
