MOZART Piano Concerto No. 14 in E-flat Major, K. 449
Jeffrey Kahane, piano
MENDELSSOHN Sinfonia No. 9 in C Major
Sarasota Orchestra welcomes world-renowned pianist and conductor Jeffrey Kahane back to the Holley Hall stage in this program featuring Mozart's 14th Piano Concerto. Performing as both soloist and conductor, as Mozart would have done, Kahane will lead the orchestra from his seat at the keyboard in the most intimate kind of music making. The program will continue as Kahane takes to the podium to conduct Mendelssohn's Sinfonia No. 9, written when the composer was only 14. Recognized early as a child prodigy, young Felix Mendelssohn wrote no fewer than 12 string symphonies between the ages of 12-14. The Sinfonia No. 9 is bustling with the energy of youth, and features a yodeling song in the third movement, a tribute to a Swiss vacation from which the young Mendelssohn had recently returned.
