W.F. BACH SINFONIA IN F MAJOR (DISSONANCES)

J.S. BACH CONCERTO FOR 2 VIOLINS IN D MINOR (DOUBLE)

Chris Takeda, violin; Jennifer Takeda, violin

C.P.E. BACH CELLO CONCERTO IN A MAJOR

Natalie Helm, cello

Baroque master Johann Sebastian Bach fathered 20 children during his lifetime, and it should come as no surprise that several of them blossomed into remarkable composers in their own rights. This program features music by two of his sons, as well as music by Johann himself. Wilhelm Friedemann Bach was the 2nd oldest child and received rigorous keyboard and composition lessons from his father. His graceful Sinfonia in F Major was his first full symphonic work. Christopher Takeda and Jennifer Best Takeda, Associate and Assistant Concertmasters, combine forces in Johann Sebastian Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins.  Frequently called Bach’s “Double Concerto”, the late Baroque masterpiece offers high energy music for the two soloists. Concluding the program is the Cello Concerto in A Major by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, Johann’s 5th child. Sarasota Orchestra Principal Cellist Natalie Helm will bring to life this treasured work, providing a lively conclusion to this tribute to a remarkable musical family.

Literally gripping the arms of my seat, I was not the only one propelled on this rollercoaster of delightful music.

Every section and soloist within the orchestra played their role with strength and beauty; every tree proud and tall. Tali served as an excellent guide leading the forces with assured confidence. The overall sound was lush and, yes, intense just where it needed to be.

A lifetime of musical moments, cinematic in scope, gave every section of the orchestra a leading role at one time or another. Chief among them was the virtuosic solo of concertmaster Daniel Jordan.

Andrew Lane, the Orchestra’s Principal Pops Conductor, knows how to program a winning event and this concert had something for everyone. It also brought in a whole new audience that seemed dazzled by the performances.

The Sarasota Orchestra played a program this past weekend filled with so much color, it was like visiting the Louvre.

The performance... was exceptional, bringing new and stunning sonorities from a larger than usual Sarasota Orchestra under the dynamic leadership of Anu Tali.
