Stephen Coffey is a third-year student at Oberlin College and Conservatory, where he is pursuing a Bachelor of Music in clarinet performance, expecting to graduate in 2026. He currently studies with renowned clarinetist and master mouthpiece craftsman Richard Hawkins and previously trained with Stanislav Chernyshev, principal clarinet of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and Chautauqua Orchestra.

As an orchestral musician, Stephen has performed with the Oberlin Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Raphael Jimenez as well as the Oberlin Sinfonietta and Contemporary Music Ensemble under the baton of Timothy Weiss.

Stephen is a part of the Oberlin-founded wind quintet, the Meliora Winds. Since its formation in early 2024, Meliora has performed recitals and participated in masterclasses, including one with the Imani Winds. In March 2025, Meliora will receive coachings from and perform with the International Contemporary Ensemble and composer Courtney Bryan during their weeklong residency at Oberlin.
