Sophie van der Sloot is a Canadian cellist based in Montréal and joined the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal in 2023. As a soloist, Sophie has performed with orchestras across the country including the Victoria Symphony Orchestra, the Sydney Classical Orchestra, the Victoria Chamber Orchestra, the Oakville Chamber Orchestra, the Sooke Philharmonic, and more. She was an Ottawa Chamberfest Rising Stars Scholarship Recipient in 2021, won the 2018 Canadian Music Competition, and received second prize at the National Music Festival. Sophie has also appeared at many summer programs, including Music Academy of the West, Morningside Music Bridge, Bowdoin International Music Festival, and the Meadowmount School of Music. In 2020, Sophie received a full scholarship to the Juilliard School in New York City under the tutelage of Richard Aaron. Other primary teachers include Paul Marleyn and Paula Kiffner.
