Hideaki Shiotsu's passion for music started when he heard his brother and his friends play chamber music. When Hideaki was 8 years old, he was intrigued with the viola, but it was too big of an instrument which led him to begin his musical career with the violin. Within two years, he was able to switch to viola, and he currently studies with Masumi Per Rostad. In 2021, Hideaki was a Concerto Division Honoree for the Seattle Young Artists Festival and won first place in both concerto and solo divisions of the Performing Arts Festival of the Eastside. In 2019, he won the Seattle Youth Symphony's Concerto Competition. He attended the Heifetz Institute in 2020, the Bowdoin Music Festival in 2021, and the Music@Menlo Young Artist'ss program in 2023. Hideaki has performed in masterclasses with Melias Watras, Milena Pajaro-van de Stadt, Matthew Lipman, David Requiro, and Arnaud Sussmann.
