Katherine (Katie) Butler, 20, has studied violin for 16 years and is currently pursuing a violin performance degree at Rice University with Kathleen Winkler. As a soloist, she has appeared with the Houston Symphony, Virtuosi of Houston, and the Sewanee Summer Music Festival Orchestra, and she also received first place in the 2020 ECHO Concerto Competition and was recognized as a National YoungArts merit winner in 2019. As a chamber musician, she has performed alongside renowned artists such as Jon Kimura Parker, and she has received top recognition in the Coltman Competition and HMTA Ensemble Competition. She was honored to serve as concertmaster for the Kinder HSPVA Symphony and Virtuosi of Houston, and she now performs frequently with the Shepherd School Symphony and Chamber Orchestras. In her free time, she loves teaching, performing in young people's concerts, and spending time with her pet bearded dragon, Marigold.
