A member of the Sarasota Music Festival faculty since 1989

German violist Barbara Westphal was the top prize winner at the 1983 Munich International Viola Competition and was awarded the prestigious Busch Prize the same year. She concertizes worldwide as a soloist and a chamber musician and has recorded extensively. She has been a guest artist at many international music festivals, such as Santa Fe, New Mexico; Sarasota, Florida; Schleswig-Holstein, Germany and Incontri in Terra di Siena, among many others. In 1981 she won the International String Quartet Competition in Colmar, France, with the Delos String Quartet. She is currently a member of the Trio da Salo (with Ani Kavafian and Gustav Rivinius) and the Bartholdy String Quintett (with Anke Dill, Ulf Schneider, Volker Jacobsen and Gustav Rivinius).
