This concert of high emotion showcases 12 Sarasota Orchestra principal musicians. The Sarasota Wind Quintet opens the concert with Jim Parker’s irrepressible Mississippi Five, a celebration of early 20th-century jazz greats. Golijov’s Mariel for cello and marimba was written in memory of a friend of the composer who died suddenly and depicts the composer's shock at his sudden loss. Dvořák's string quintet features a double bass for added warmth and serves as a glorious finale to this rich and diverse concert.
