With the announcement of new conducting luminaries and guest artists to visit Sarasota Orchestra's stage, the original list of Grammy-winning and nominated musicians featured in our 2022-2023 concert season has doubled in size!
David Alan Miller brings two Grammy wins and three additional nominations along with him when he helps to fire up our Masterworks season in November. A closer inspection of this significant bed of laurels cements Miller's reputation as a fearless explorer of new and unusual repertoire for orchestra, with all five recordings featuring 20th- and 21st-century works.

Peter Oundjian has been racking up Grammy nominations since 1974, with a total of seven to his name. The first six nominations actually came not for the way Oundjian wields a baton, but for his performances as the first violin in the Tokyo String Quartet. Oundjian received his first Grammy nomination as a conductor in 2018, conducting the Toronto Symphony Orchestra in a Vaughan Williams compendium. He leads our third and fourth Masterworks concerts of the season, as well as our Special Concert with Yo-Yo Ma.

The Count Basie Orchestra didn't stop touring or recording--or gaining Grammy attention--after its namesake passed away in 1984. Bobby Floyd currently sits in Basie's throne at the keyboards and got to attend the big bash in 2019, when his band was nominated for its first post-Basie Grammy Award. Floyd will command the keys at Pops 2: Berlin, Gershwin & Friends.

Finally, Carlos Miguel Prieto carries a 2009 Grammy nomination for leading the Orquesta Sinfónica de Mineria in a recording of Korngold's Violin Concerto. You'll get to see firsthand his prowess on the podium with this very work in our Masterworks season finale!
