Since moving to Sarasota in 1998, the Schlegels have found a place for their love of the arts to thrive, and have attended “as many Sarasota Orchestra concerts as possible” over the last 20 years.
Priscilla: “The reimagined season sounds very exciting, and the Orchestra is doing wonderful things with hands tied behind their back to make it happen. Our real passion is a full orchestra, so we want to help as much as we can to make sure Sarasota Orchestra is still here and ready for full orchestra concerts again when COVID is under control. We care about the Orchestra and all the arts in Sarasota so much, and we're in a comfortable position where we are able to support the arts more than by going to performances. Anything that we can do during this terrible time to make sure the arts survive is important to us. Any subscriptions we had, we donated, because we don't want anyone laid off. We want to be able to keep the family together.”
Jack: “There's sort of a selfish reason, too. We came to Sarasota from Washington, D.C., where we had our careers. With the demands and travel required by my job, I didn't get to experience much theater and things of that nature. But our biggest passion was the orchestra, and so we would always attend concerts when I was in town. We came to Sarasota for three reasons: for warmth, for tennis, and for the arts. We have watched Sarasota Orchestra grow from a community orchestra to, in our view, one of the top symphonies in the country. That has created a unique sense of family and passion, and we feel very fortunate to have such a special relationship with Sarasota Orchestra. Music is, honestly, one of the most important things in our lives.”
Save the Date: On December 1, 2020, Sarasota Orchestra will join the global generosity movement known as Giving Tuesday. Since 2012, Giving Tuesday has inspired millions to give to the organizations and causes that matter most to each of them, empowering individuals to transform their communities and the world. Please consider making a gift to Sarasota Orchestra during Giving Tuesday 2020 and help us keep the music playing when our community needs it most.
