First season with the SO: 2004
Hometown: Sarasota, FL
Degrees / Colleges: DMA Cleveland Institute of Music, MM Rice University, BM Peabody Institute
Age you began playing an instrument: 4(piano), 10 (violin), 12 (viola)
Award / Musical Accomplishment you are most proud of: Being
a member of my hometown orchestra. Its rise has been nothing short of
remarkable, and it is extremely gratifying to be at least a small part
of it.
Style and make of your instrument: I am the lucky
owner of a modern viola from 2005 by Douglas Cox of Brattleboro,
Vermont. It makes me happy every time I take it out of the case. I
currently use a codabow, which is made out of carbon fiber. It is the
perfect bow for me, because even though I routinely drop it, it will
never break.
Hobbies / interests: Martial Arts - I have trained
in Karate since I was a kid, and have recently begun learning Aikido. I
also enjoy hiking and "extreme" cooking.
Personal Fact / Something you would like people to know about you: I
live in Atlanta, but I grew up in Sarasota, where I graduated from Pine
View. I participated in all of the Sarasota Orchestra's education
programs, from the Summer Music Camp, to the Youth Philharmonic, to the
Sarasota Music Festival. I'm also the guy who sits on the chair blocks.
