Rossini's Overture is the perfect opening to this season of popular works as the piece stealthily builds to a bubbling finale. In Vivaldi's beloved violin concerto, you will experience the birds of Spring, the heat of Summer, the harvest celebrations of Autumn and the bitter winds of Winter. As celebrated a violinist as he is a conductor, Jaime Laredo will not only take the conductor's podium, but will also play Vivaldi's virtuosic concerto. Laredo is a master of early music and is especially renowned for the 15 years he played in a Piano Quartet with Isaac Stern, Yo-Yo Ma, and Emanuel Ax. Rejoice in the exuberant joy and sparkling humor of Beethoven's Symphony No. 7. The joy is compounded by the deeply expressive and powerful second movement, which recently gained even greater popularity as it underscored the climax to the Oscar winning film, The King's Speech.
