Leading the iOrchestra

You can help connect the wireless generation to classic rock they may not even know to download. By supporting the Sarasota Orchestra’s educational outreach efforts, you are helping young people and nontraditional concert-goers see the Orchestra as accessible, entertaining, rewarding and human as any other genre.

Playing music for all ages is something the Sarasota Orchestra already does well. But for the “i generation” to come, participate and listen, requires creating new programs that dispel myths and ignite interest in the music. Youngsters need to “see” themselves in our audience. They need to “hear” what they’ve been missing. And once they do, they develop a completely new sort of playlist.

Programs like our Youth Orchestra, allow young people to try and excel at becoming musicians themselves. With your supplemental funding, we are able to offer many of these students scholarships so that participation is available at little or no cost. We acquire instruments for Youth Orchestra members and repair existing ones, so that families feel free to experiment with what their child is naturally drawn to.

Private support also allows the Sarasota Orchestra to take professional performances directly to budding audiences, providing free Children’s Concerts for fourth and fifth graders each year. Additionally, the Orchestra provides educational classes for children and adult ensembles alike.

Many studies support the value of music in the healthy development and educations of children. Exposure and participation provides joy as well as sustenance. Your gift today can make a significant difference to the quality of life in this community by creating tomorrow’s audience.
