Summer Music

Chamber 7

Thursday, May 9, 2013

5:30 pm | Holley Hall | seat layout
Single Ticket Prices: C $27, B $35

Relax to Samuel Barber's only wind quintet. True to its name, the music moves at the languid and unhurried pace of summer with bursts of recreation and delight. Written by a trumpet player, Böhme's Sextet is justly a classic of brass chamber repertoire. You'll love the triumphant sounds and march-like finale of this work. One of the greatest Hungarian composers, Ernst von Dohnányi led an interesting life that included an escape from the Nazis. In his highly original Sextet for piano, strings, horn, and clarinet, you'll be moved and amused in equal parts by its moments of serenity, passion, and comical jazz.
