*Due to unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances, Ya-Fei Chuang is unable to perform. David Coucheron, concertmaster of the Atlanta Symphony and former SMF student, will join Robert Levin.

This recital by Sarasota Music Festival Director Robert Levin and acclaimed pianist Ya-Fei Chuang perfectly showcases the expressive intensity of the piano in this thrilling, intimate recital and previews the excitement for the upcoming 2013 Festival.

Chuang will sparkle in masterworks by Rachmaninoff and Wagner. Scintillating sounds emanate from Wagner’s stately Tannhäuser Overture arranged by the master of the piano Franz Liszt. Noted for its incredible difficulty, this monumental piece is attempted only by the bravest pianists. At times mysteriously beautiful, at others devilishly difficult, Rachmaninoff’s brilliant Moments musicaux are justly famous.

Levin, a highly regarded Mozart scholar and Harvard professor, brings his unique and world famous improvisations in the style of famous composers. In performing Mozart, Levin will offer the audience a unique opportunity to experience improvisations, in the authentic style that Mozart may have expressed in his own recitals.

Finally, this married couple and tour de force will play together on one piano on a trip to the exotic inspiration of Eastern Europe in selections from Dvořák’s Slavonic Dances and from Brahms’ exuberant Hungarian Dances.

All proceeds from this recital benefit the 2013 Sarasota Music Festival.
