First season with the SO: 2000/2001
Hometown: Montpellier, France
Degrees / Colleges: Conservatoire National de
Musique, Montpellier France; Royal College of Music, (Bachelor of Music
Performance) London, United Kingdom.
Age you began playing an instrument: 4 Years old I started Solfege, and at 5 I started violin.
Award / Musical Accomplishment you are most proud of:
My first International Violin Competition in Rome, Italy. I prepared
intensively for four months and learned some of the hardest violin
repertoire. It helped me acquire self discipline to a level I never knew
existed. I won 2nd place after three very stressful rounds. Since I was
still very young, my older brother Romain "chaperoned" me, and sharing
this incredible experience with him made us very close.
Style and make of your instrument: Made anonymously
in Mittenwald, Germany, it has now been recognized to be from the Klotz
family, and made around 1750. My dad bought it for me when I was 17
after hearing me at my graduation recital at the conservatory. After
playing on it for 17 years, I am still madly in love with it!
Hobbies / interests: Teaching, playing tennis, cooking, and traveling.
Personal Fact / Something you would like people to know about you: I
am very passionate about teaching, and my husband, Sean O'Neil, and I
founded the Sarasota Music Academy. It's a music institution dedicated
to providing local students a very high level of music education based
on a conservatory format.
My dream is to: Everyday I wake up feeling that I am living my dream! So I guess I could say that my dream is that it never ends.
