Crossing Bridges in the Arts
The Harmony Gallery, located in the atrium of the Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center, is the brainchild of Artistic Director Leif Bjaland, who believes there is great power in the collaboration of the visual and performing arts.
The Gallery features local artists who are invited to showcase their work in month-long solo exhibitions throughout the Orchestra's season. Many artists choose to incorporate musical themes into their work, thus furthering the goal of this unique collaboration.
Six of these exhibits are strategically themed to support the Orchestra’s Great
Escapes concerts will be presented in the 2009-2010 season. The Great
Escapes concerts are themed: Musical Postcards; All that Glitters; I’ll Be Seeing You; The Green, Green Grass of Home; Mona Lisa; and Beyond the Blue Horizon.
The Gallery is free and open to the public during normal business hours, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and during concerts that take place at Holley Hall.

Information for Interested Artists
The Sarasota Orchestra invites artists to submit applications to exhibit their work during their 2010-2011 season in the Orchestra’s Harmony Gallery, located in the atrium of the Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center.
“Musicians and visual artists have inspired one another throughout the centuries and continue do so today,” said the Orchestra’s Artistic Director Leif Bjaland. “The impressions that one takes in when viewing a painting are very similar to the sensory response one gets when listening to a great oratorio or piano concerto.”
The application deadline for the 2010-2011 Harmony Gallery exhibitions will be announced later this season.
Interested artists should submit a biography, artist statement, at least 10 digital samples of their most recent work or a link an online portfolio site and a completed application.
Applications should be submitted to:
Sherrie McKinley at smckinley@SarasotaOrchestra.org or
Harmony Gallery
Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center
709 North Tamiami Trail
Sarasota, Florida, 34236
The Orchestra will host an artist reception for each exhibition in the atrium of the Symphony Center, and 25% of the proceeds from the sale of Harmony Gallery artwork will be donated to the Orchestra.
