LARSEN | Brazen Overture
NORTON | The Call of Boromir
FAURE | Piano Quartet No. 1
PROKOFIEV | Classical Symphony
See the comedic personality of our Brass ensemble as they perform their last concert of the season. It all begins with a jazzy performance of Grammy award-winning composer Libby Larsen's Brazen Overture. Then the horn and marimba will take center stage in a fervent and frisky performance of McCarthy's Call of Boromir, which was inspired by a character from Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. The lightheartedness continues with Faure's elegant and quintessentially French Piano Quartet which is both humorous and beautifully lyric. Then the Chamber Orchestra will take a step back into the spotlight with Prokofiev's Classical Symphony.

Fantaisie (CS7)

BRAHMS | Clarinet Trio, Op. 114
SAINT-SAËNS | Fantaisie for Violin and Harp, Op. 124
SCHÖNBERG | Chamber Symphony No. 1, Op. 9
The Chamber series closes with a program that showcases the brilliance and ability of our musicians in all of their fantastic glory. Brahms, inspired by the genius of a young clarinet player, returned from retirement to write a sequence of works that flaunts the haunting beauty of the instrument. Once described as, "the French Beethoven," Saint-Saëns' Fantaisie is a bewitching duet for violin and harp that was written for a married couple and portrays a sweet and simple sense of affection. Schoenberg Chamber Symphony contains a sense of movement and tonality that is reminiscent of the Romantic Era and still looks forward to music to come.
